Sports stadia are becoming increasingly popular as meeting venues, and are very well suited to larger events and especially to public exhibitions. Most clubs also offer corporate hospitality on matchdays.
The explosion of funds available to top-level football sides during the 1990s and 2000s has led to massive investment in the stadia and surrounding infrastructure. All of the new purpose-built large stadia have been fitted with conference and large exhibition facilities, while further down the leagues, clubs have also invested in their facilities - recognising that off-field income is essential for survival and progress.
Of the 92 League clubs that started the 2008/2009 season, over twenty have relocated to purpose-built stadia within the last 15-20 years, while many more have redeveloped and enhanced their facilities so extensively that their grounds are almost unrecognisable from what they were before. With the trend being away from town centres, the new-build stadia also benefit from very easily accessible locations.
And there's not just football clubs to consider - there are a good number of Rugby Clubs, Racecourses and Cricket Clubs that also offer fine facilities, not to mention the national stadia like Wembley, Twickenham, Hampden Park and the Millennium Stadium.
